Singapore, Singapore Aug 1, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - From July 22 to 28, 2025, the China-ASEAN "Future Architect" Summer Camp was held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. The event was jointly organized by Guizhou Polytechnic of Construction (GZPC) and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Technical Education Development (SEAMEO TED). As an important practice to deepen regional youth exchanges, the event brought together 21 outstanding young representatives from nine ASEAN countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. They embarked on a journey to explore architectural culture that transcends national boundaries and connects the past and the present.
On July 23, Vice President Wang Huirong of GZPC attended the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all the participants. She introduced the rich ancient architectural cultural resources of Guizhou and outlined the weeks highlights to the young students from ASEAN countries. Siti Hannani Haji Ramli and Norishma Alexia Binti Nodie from Brunei, and Cao Ngoc Thach from Vietnam, as student representatives, expressed their excitement and promised to be active learners and cultural ambassadors.
Under the guidance of the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of a China-ASEAN Community with a shared future, this summer camp, as an extension of the "International Youth Talk" series of activities, invited outstanding young representatives who performed well in the activities to visit China. Through immersive experiences, they felt the integration of ancient and modern Chinese architectural culture and appreciated the wisdom of Guizhou's ethnic architecture. Using architecture, a universal cultural language of humanity, as a bond, the camp helped young people broaden their international horizons, enhance their cultural identity, and stimulate new vitality in regional cultural exchanges.
The participants visited CHINA CONSTRUCTION SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY GROUP CO., LTD. to gain an up-close understanding of the achievements in the development of prefabricated construction. The tour guides provided detailed explanations of the application scenarios of cutting-edge technologies such as green building and smart manufacturing. The participants learned about new types of materials and intelligent construction techniques and personally experienced the rapid development of construction technology.
The participants visited the Qingyan ancient town of Qingyan, a national-level historical and cultural town with a history of over 600 years, to experience its rich historical accumulation and the charm of its regional culture. The well-preserved wooden structures, flagstone walkway, carved beams, and painted pillars in the town all demonstrate the exquisite craftsmanship and unique charm of traditional Guizhou architecture. During the tour, the students observed the harmonious coexistence of traditional architecture and modern commerce and gained a deep understanding of the balance between historical preservation and contemporary use.
During the International Youth Roundtable Exchange session, participants from different countries took turns to present representative buildings from their respective nations and their construction techniques, showcasing a diverse cultural landscape. Focusing on topics such as urban sustainable development and green construction, the students engaged in in-depth discussions and brainstorming sessions, drawing on their experiences and observations in Guiyang. The collision of ideas from diverse cultural backgrounds continually expanded the participants' boundary of thought and deepened their understanding of one another through listening and responding. Through the collision of ideas, the power of youth co-creation became increasingly evident, and a cross-border architectural dialogue quietly unfolded.
At the closing ceremony of the Summer Camp and Forum on Jointly Building a New Ecosystem for China-ASEAN Vocational Education Development: Innovative Integration and Digital Empowerment, the participants took the stage in their national costumes, making a splendid appearance and showcasing their youthful vigor. The students shared videos they had edited, recording their wonderful moments in Guiyang and expressing their precious memories of this exchange journey. Representatives of the participants delivered speeches full of heartfelt emotions, sharing their immersive learning and cultural experiences in China. They reviewed their rich itinerary in Guizhou, from visiting ancient Chinese architecture and appreciating traditional crafts to participating in hands-on workshops on bamboo weaving and mortise and tenon structure. They not only felt the charm of excellent traditional Chinese culture but also forged cross-border friendships through interactions. The students' speeches were emotionally sincere and vividly demonstrated the open attitude and diverse perspectives of the youth in cultural integration. They jointly called for the establishment of a closer China-ASEAN youth exchange network to promote the integrated development of education and culture in the context of the digital age.
The event also included a special award ceremony for "International Youth Talk," where outstanding participants were presented with trophies to encourage young people to keep their voices heard and shine in Sino-foreign cultural exchanges. A student team from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia won the first prize in the "International Youth Talk" special event for their innovative integration of traditional architectural wisdom and digital technology application, showcasing the potential of regional youth to collaborate in addressing sustainable development challenges. The ceremony concluded with the participants singing "Jasmine" in both Chinese and English, their melodious voices echoing a cultural consensus and emotional resonance among Chinese and foreign youth, adding a warm and profound cultural memory to the forum.
