Currently, Dr. Gofan's scholarship focuses on the emotional and physical health benefits of storytelling, particularly among cancer survivors. Her groundbreaking research examines how African American women diagnosed with breast cancer can experience positive health outcomes by sharing their stories. This two-part project will utilize both cross-sectional and longitudinal methods to assess the impact of storytelling on emotional health, filling a crucial gap in existing research.
Dr. Gofan is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Michigan Nurse Practitioners Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
